Incise

Overview

A handmade welded steel chair inspired by the act of cutting into a flat surface and bending it open. The piece translates the delicate gesture of slicing paper into a rigid sculptural form, where the central opening becomes both a structural break and a point of visual tension.

Through various sheet metal forming and welding techniques, the chair explores the relationship between cut, surface, and support. The curvature of the plates and the angled seat are carefully shaped to provide ergonomic comfort while maintaining the object’s architectural presence. In steel, the simple incision becomes permanent, heavy, and sculptural.
