UNDUCK
Overview
UNDUCK is a speculative café concept where inflatable furniture rises from the floor so visitors can shape their own place to sit. It supports both social and personal use by letting people
adjust distance and boundaries in a playful way, encourages interaction through shared setup and re adjustment, and keeps the space flexible as groups form and dissolve over time.
In UNDUCK, the ground is covered by a stretchable fabric skin. Underneath is a network of inflatable chambers. When a visitor arrives, they inflate their own seat and table. The flat surface slowly rises, forming a soft hill that becomes their temporary “영역” (territory). As more users inflate their zones, the cafes topography changes everytime. Raised areas redirect circulation, inviting people to walk around these soft volumes instead of through them. Boundaries are co-created. They are not fixed furniture plans, but the result of many small actions happening over time.
Inflation can also become a social interaction. When one visitor struggles to inflate a seat, another person might help them pump, creating a small moment of collaboration and shared effort. Each seat can reach different heights so people can lounge, sit upright for work, or share a level with friends. Over time, the air slowly leaks out and the forms sink back into the floor. To stay comfortable, users must occasionally re pump, a quiet reminder that comfort and connection in social spaces also require ongoing care.
